Reading note · CLSA / ACDS

Book Prize — letter of 20 November 2025 documents an award description, nomination route or recognition statement. Distinguish eligibility rules from the committee’s explanation of a particular winning work. A citation is a useful way into the research, not a substitute for the book or article.

Make a reading card

Record the author, exact title, year and publication details. Note which contribution the committee recognises, then read the original work and identify its evidence and argument. If using the rules for a nomination, confirm the applicable year, language, publication window and destination with the Association.

The letter announced a June 2026 award for books published in 2025. Keeping these dates separate makes a publisher’s nomination record intelligible. The submission deadline has passed.

  • Books from all socio-legal fields and approaches were eligible in principle; both monographs and edited volumes were accepted.Source page 1
  • The author condition covered residents of Canada and Canadians abroad. Books had to be in English or French, including translations into those languages.Source page 1
  • The requested publication year was 2025 and the submission deadline was 31 January 2026. Submitted PDFs were intended only for committee circulation.Source page 1

CanadianLaw Associdli1:m analSociety Co.nadierme Assmliati.on Omitet Soril:re 20 November 2025 To Whom it May Concern: Re: Canadian Law and Society Association’s W. Wesley Pue Book Prize I write you in my capacity as chair of the W. Wesley Pue Book Prize Committee of the Canadian Law and Society Association (CLSA). The CLSA has members in a wide range of disciplines including Law, Criminology, Justice Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science and History. One way we ensure our members are aware of the most significant published work in the field of Law and Society is through our annual scholarly book prize. Each year at our annual meeting and conference, the CLSA recognizes the book judged most meritorious by the Committee. The competition is open to books from all fields of, and approaches to, law and society scholarship. The Book Prize recognizes new, outstanding socio-legal scholarship by authors resident in Canada or by Canadian authors residing abroad. Books may be published by Canadian or international publishers. Both monographs and edited volumes are accepted. Books must be published in English, French or be English/French translations of original works. We will announce the recipient of the prize at our annual conference in June 2026 and on our website (see the past winners and honourable mentions at https://www.acds-clsa.com/book-prize.html). Please respond by email with PDFs of any books published in 2025 that you would like considered. (PDFs will only be circulated to members of the Committee). After I compile our longlist of nominees, I may follow up to request that a review copy of each book be shipped to a member of the Committee. Please note the submission deadline is 31 January 2026. If you have any questions about the CLSA or the W. Wesley Pue Book Prize, I would be happy to answer them. Thank you for your consideration. Yours very truly, Palma Paciocco Chair, CLSA Book Prize Committee ppaciocco@osgoode.yorku.ca
